AKS Welding has been a trusted service provider in Darwin since its establishment in 1985. In 2022, AKS underwent a significant transition when it was acquired by industry veterans and long-serving team members Jimmy Peacock and Colin Ford (Fordy). Drawing from their extensive experience and deep knowledge acquired from years of dedicated service at AKS, Jimmy and Fordy are committed to upholding the legacy of exceptional customer service that AKS is renowned for. They bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and unmatched expertise to ensure that AKS continues to excel and meet the evolving needs of its clientele.

AKS boasts a skilled team of qualified tradesmen capable of handling the design, fabrication, and installation of a diverse range of steel products. With a strategic workshop base in Winnellie, this facility houses essential fabrication machinery such as a guillotine, press, and mill, as well as an array of welding tools, drills and other specialised equipment, allowing for exceptional in-house workmanship, ready to mobilise for onsite installation projects with efficiency, delivering superior results.

Director | Jimmy Peacock

Jimmy started his apprenticeship with AKS Welding in 1995 and completed it in 1999. After multiple years working for other companies post apprenticeship, Jimmy returned to AKS Welding in 2010 as workshop foreman, which gave him the experience in managing and delegating jobs and staff and dealing with day to day customer relations. After a few years, Jimmy’s role changed to Business Manager, which he then gained responsibilities and experience including quoting, and relationship building with customers and suppliers. In 2022 Jimmy and business partner Fordy purchased AKS with the outlook to grow the business and continue providing an outstanding service to long term customers, as well as improving operations to include onsite works and building the customer base.

Director | Colin Ford (Fordy)

Fordy, a qualified boilermaker, has worked with AKS on and off for 10 years, and has extensive experience and knowledge of the industry. After a few interesting adventures working in Antarctica, Fordy re-joined the AKS team in 2022 purchasing the business alongside Jimmy, and brings to the team strengths in workshop organisation and business and employee management. Fordy is all about quality workmanship, productivity, and safety. He continues to work with the team on implementing safe work practices, training apprentices, and implementing systems improvement.
